Special Vehicle Operations

Special Vehicle Operations Logo

Special Vehicle Operations is a program under Vehicles Facilities Assets & Capabilities (VFAC) to provide advanced offroad / 4×4 vehicle capability, and other vehicles equipped for special purposes; to support special operations, emergency response, and other missions as assigned.  The program currently involves the use of privately owned vehicles (POVs) from C.A.A. personnel that have offroad capability and meet certain requirements.  SVO deploys to support C.A.A. Emergency Response operations; but also engages in training, OHV assistance patrols, and light offroad vehicle recovery efforts when requested.

Joint Task Force 2

Joint Task Force 2, also called Task Force Overdrive, is a Special Vehicle Operations unit based out of Sector 2.  The purpose of the unit is to provide 4×4 special vehicle capability for Emergency Response Force 1.  TF2 personnel and vehicles may be called upon for emergency response, and to provide offroad recovery services.  The unit often conducts patrols of offroad vehicle areas for training and to provide assistance when needed or requested.  The unit is open to both Rated and Non-Rated personnel and has three types of membership: personnel with vehicles (V), personnel who act as crew (C), and personnel who are vehicle operators (O).  Personnel may join the unit as multiple membership types.

Joint Task Force 1, Detachment Echo

Joint Task Force 1, Detachment Echo is a Joint Unit between Task Force 1 and Task Force 2, and an operational unit of Sector 1.  It serves as the administrative location for the assignment of units and personnel serving at Sector 1.  It has variable composition and leadership, depending on what units are present at any given time.  Its primary mission is Dune Patrol, including assisting those who are lost, stuck, or injured; as well as any Emergency Response activities on the dunes.  Like all elements of Joint Task Force 1, Detachment Echo consists of units and personnel that are detailed based on their specific role.  Details are either temporary or ongoing, with temporary details lasting only for the duration of time the unit is operating in Sector 1; or ongoing, with the detail lasting on a more permanent basis.  While detailed, all units fall under the greater command and operational jurisdiction of Joint Task Force 1.  Detachment Echo is primarily composed of personnel and units from Task Force 2, SVO, and Emergency Response; and patrols the Oregon Dunes between Florence and Coos Bay.

Uniforms of Special Vehicle Operations

Currently, Special Vehicle Operations does not have an assigned uniform.  Because both its units are a Task Forces, it was decided that members will wear the uniform and follow the hygiene and appearance requirements of their parent command or unit.
