Search And Rescue (SAR) is a program under Emergency Response to provide highly trained search and rescue focused units and personnel, capable of being deployed to conduct or support search and rescue operations in a variety of environments; with an emphasis on both urban and wilderness search and rescue capability.
Training is of utmost importance to ensure we are most effective in carrying out emergency response operations. To that end, we have developed a tiered approach that unifies all C.A.A. Emergency Response focused personnel into one uniform training standard. Known as Responder Levels, this system defines the minimum standards of training required for each level. Depending on their specific role, personnel must meet and maintain qualification at a certain minimum level, but are also able (and encouraged) to continue their training to receive qualification at higher levels. The specific level of qualification is displayed on Role Patches worn on the shoulders of Emergency Response uniforms. Â
Search And Rescue primarily wears uniforms in Navy Blue (Color Type 1 with red T-shirts – especially when attached to or embedded in other units, like ERF 1), but also wears Coyote (Color Type 2), and Khaki/Olive Drab (Color Type 3.3) for hot weather and dedicated wilderness-focused units. Uniforms commonly worn by Search And Rescue include:

Because Search And Rescue units are deployable, they typically require Type 4Â or greater hygiene and appearance requirements when in full uniform.
