The Unit

RRT Squad 1 is a Rapid Response Team unit whose mission is localized disaster and emergency response based out of Sector 2.  The unit can be deployed within the region directly by the C.A.A. or can be deployed by one of several partner agencies.

RRT units are similar to FEMA CERT teams but receive more advanced training and certifications in addition to the basic CERT training.  Rapid Response Team personnel are also trained and certified in first aid and CPR.  All team members must complete basic CERT training; ICS 100, 200, and 700; and become certified as HAM radio operators as a mandatory minimum requirement for joining.  Many team members are also OSSA state licensed in Search And Rescue.

The Sector 2 RRT unit continues to actively participate in training and drills put on by other local agencies involved in disaster and emergency response such as Eugene/Springfield CERT, Lane County Community OrganizationActive in Disaster (COAD), and Lane Community College Campus CERT program.  A secondary goal of the unit is to increase local community readiness, as well as be active in outreach programs having to do with disaster response.  The unit trains every other month, and currently has deployment agreements with several local emergency response organizations including local government entities.

The Sector 2 Rapid Response Team is an Ad-Hoc unit that is comprised of 3 teams.  The unit has Type 3 Hygiene Requirements, and is made up entirely of volunteers.   Because the unit is Ad-Hoc, RRT personnel must still participate in the normal activities and events of their assigned unit in addition to the requirements associated with being on RRT.

All uniforms, equipment, and the training required for participation on a Rapid Response Team is provided or arranged by the C.A.A.
